Upper Darby, PA – It was a quiet day of basketball for the GOYA this past Sunday. Three games carried the afternoon. Then game four happened. St. George Boys met up with the Holy Trinity Boys, in what turned out to be one of the best games as of late.

They went back and forth early in the first half, exchanging buckets. Just one point separated these two teams at, with a score of 22-21. St. George and Holy Trinity of  Egg Harbor Twp looked very evenly matched. But as the third quarter kicked off, St. George began to pull away. They managed to do so, by dominating inside the paint. By the end of the third quarter they had a thirteen point lead and appeared to have the game in hand. But several key three point shots and scrappy defensive, gradually pulled Trinity into a tie with just minutes remaining. For a brief moment, and with less than a minute to play, they grabbed the lead by one before turning over the ball on an inbound play. At just under ten seconds, St. George scored again, sealing this tough battle.

Final score: St. George 52, Holy Trinity 51.

In game three, the Holy Trinity (Egg Harbor Twp) girls dominating St. George (Media) throughout the first half. They controlled the rebounding at both ends and managed to stick their shots in and outside the paint. They took an 18-9 lead at the half. The St. George girls appeared to regroup and mounted a late fourth quarter comeback that brought them within ten points. But Holy Trinity’s depth and ability to dominate was to much.

Final score: St. George 40, Holy Trinity 26.

The second matchup of the day, featured a very young St. Demetrios (Upper Darby) team against Holy Trinity of Wilmington. Holy Trinity showed up with only four players and borrowed two players from St. Demetrios that rotated the final position. St. Demetrios jumped out to a 16-0 lead in the first quarter. Their overwhelming speed and ability to control their offensive and defensive boards gave them an easy win.

Final score: St. Demetrios 43, Holy Trinity 17.

St. Demetrios jumped out to a quick 10-4 lead in the first half over Holy Trinity at the Sunday opener. Both teams ran a very face paced, fast break offense in the first half. The two teams appeared very evenly matched underneath the boards. But St. Demetrios took control eventually of the boards and converted their shots. They took a commanding lead by the end of the first half. Throughout the third quarter, missed foul shots and turnovers by Holy Trinity allowed St. Demetrios to expand their lead to, 20-4. A controlled fourth quarter defense gave them the win.

Final score: St. Demetrios 25, Holy Trinity 7.
