Ernest Angelos of Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania was honored this past Sunday (May 19th) at the “Walk for the Wounded” event in Rose Tree Park, Rose Tree Pennsylvania. This event, now in it’s fifth year saw thousands gather for the day to honor and raise support for its veterans . Veterans and families a like came and marched through the park, that preceded a concert. In attendance, were local musicians, the Phillies Fanatic and local government officials . The annual events goals are to draw attention to the plight of tens of thousands of returning soldiers who are wounded, and whose families are facing significant financial and emotional challenges as their loved one recover and to raise funds to help meet the critical needs of these families, many of whom are in a crisis right now – today, in hometowns all across the country.
Angelos was recognized for his service in World War II. He served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1945 during which time he experienced combat from a slightly different perspective from most others within the European Theater; that is, the pre-invasion preparations for the Utah sector of Normandy on June 6, 1944. With family in attendance, Angelos was wheeled out in front of the crowed where he briefly talked about his experience.
