It is with deep sorrow that we report the loss of Reverend Father Procopios Nikas, presiding Priest of Evangelismos Greek Orthodox church of Philadelphia yesterday; Sunday, June 10th 2012. He is survived by his loving wife of over 50 years, Presvytera Golfo (Drouviotou) Nikas, his son, Archimandrite George Nikas, and sister, nephews and nieces in Greece. He was born in Fili, Attiki, Greece on 12-12-31 and came to the US in the early 60’s. A priest for 50 years, he was recently honored by His Eminence, Metropolitan Evangelos of New Jersey for this milestone on Sunday, June 3rd in Philadelphia, though he was not able to accept the award in person.
He has served on many parishes which include, St. Nicholas, Enfield, CT, St. George, Schenectady, NY, All Saints, Weirton, WV, Holy Trinity, Portland, ME, St. Theodore, Lanham, MD,, St. Nicholas, Atlantic City, NJ and for the past 12 years, Evangelismos, Philadelphia, PA. In all of the parishes which he served with distinction, he always left them improved and progressed.
