The Federation of Hellenic American Societies of Philadelphia and Greater Delaware Valley hosts the annual Greek Flag Raising Ceremony and church service on Friday, April 5, 2024. This event is a tribute to the heroic efforts of the Greek War of Independence and honors Greece’s rich cultural heritage and historical significance.
The ceremony will commence at 1:00 pm at Thomas Paine Plaza, in front of the Phila. Municipal Services Building. The Flag Raising Ceremony is the event’s focal point and symbolizes resilience and freedom. Distinguished guests, community leaders, and the public are invited to participate in this momentous occasion.
Adding to the historical significance, the Evzones, Greece’s elite Presidential Guard, will participate in the ceremony, bringing a touch of tradition and authenticity to the event. Later in the evening, the commemoration will continue at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church with a solemn church service. The service will allow attendees to reflect and unite as they come together to honor the Greek War of Independence.
