Upper Darby, PA – The Federation of Hellenic-American Societies of Philadelphia and Greater Delaware Valley hosted its first meeting of the year yesterday. Members discussed the 2018 parade and upcoming fundraisers to sponsor the annual event that takes place along the Benjamin Franklin Parkway in Philadelphia.

The Greek Independence Day parade will take place this year on Sunday, March 25, 2018. It will feature Orthodox churches, societies, schools and various dignitaries. The locations and times for the annual dinner and awards ceremonies will be released later this year.

A committee was formed to discuss the grand marshall and Eleftheria Μedal possible recipients for 2018. The Eleftheria Μedal is awarded annually to an individual who has impacted Hellenism and has represented Greek values in the community.

The fundraising dinner dance to sponsor the parade has been scheduled for January 13th, 2018 at St. Demetrios. The proceeds will be used to cover the annual expenses which continue to grow from year to year. A press release will follow in the coming weeks promoting the event. The entire community is encouraged to attend and participate to help continue this tradition.
