Over 1,500 works of modern and contemporary Greek art are now just a click away. Greek Art Now, a new initiative from Google Arts & Culture, invites visitors to explore a richly curated selection of paintings, sculptures, and visual stories, all in high resolution and available digitally from the comfort of their own screens.
Created in collaboration with the National Gallery of Greece, the National Museum of Contemporary Art (EMST), and MOMus, the project brings together collections from seven major museums across the country. The result is not just a virtual exhibition but a thoughtful portal into the evolution of Greek artistic expression.
Through more than sixty digital stories, visitors can discover key movements such as the Munich School, post-impressionism, and orientalism, along with detailed features on artists like Parthenis, Tsarouchis, Moralis, Alex Mylona, Pavlos Xagoraris, and Bia Davou. These curated narratives not only showcase art but also encourage interpretation, context, and reflection.
For educators and families, the platform includes interactive tools such as art-based puzzles for children. During the initiative’s launch, representatives from Google and the Greek Ministry of Culture emphasized its educational value, especially for students and teachers in remote or underserved areas. There was even discussion of extending access to collections from places like Mount Athos in the future.
The long-term goal is expansion: more institutions, more works, and broader inclusion of underrepresented regions. Greek Art Now builds on Google Arts & Culture’s growing digital archive, which now includes over six million objects from more than 3,000 institutions in 95 countries. Greek participants already include the Acropolis Museum, the Museum of Cycladic Art, and the Sotiris Felios Collection.
What distinguishes this exhibition is its depth and detail. Users can zoom in on works like Rizos’ Athenian Evening or Moralis’ Erotiko, revealing brushstrokes and textures that are rarely visible in person. The experience is open-ended and immersive, making it ideal for teachers, students, or anyone eager to engage more deeply with Greek art.
