Harry Zografos, age 78, of Deptford, NJ, passed away suddenly on November 20, 2024. He was the devoted husband of the late Liberty (née Miller), with whom he built a loving family.
Born in Leontari, Thebes, Greece, Harry grew up in modest circumstances. He began working at age three, developing a strong work ethic that would define his life. His given name, Haralambos, means “joy/happiness shines.”
As a young man, Harry traveled the world on ships, experiencing different cultures and languages. In 1963, he immigrated to the United States seeking better opportunities. In South Jersey, he met Liberty, who became his wife. Their relationship was built on devotion and sacrifice.
Harry established his own successful business, “Harry The Greek.” Through his success, he supported his family and contributed generously to churches and monasteries. While he built a life in America, he maintained strong connections to Greece, making frequent trips to his homeland, sometimes for just a weekend. He ensured his children experienced their heritage by sending them to Greece each summer.
He was the proud father of George (Kathy) Zografos of Cherry Hill, Steven Zografos of Jersey City, Margarita (Aleko) Vrettos of Jobstown, and Konstantine (Angela) Zografos of Medford. His grandchildren, who called him Pappou, were Haralambos G. Zografos, Cleo E. Zografos, Zannis A. Vrettos, Haralambos A. Vrettos, Sofia Zografos, Haralambos K. Zografos, and Liberty K. Zografos.
Harry was known for his booming laughter, warm embraces, and his ability to connect with others in their native languages. He enjoyed dancing the Tsamiko at Greek festivals and filling his home with family and friends. His faith, love for family, and pride in his heritage were central to his life.
Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Monday, November 25th, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at St. Thomas Greek Orthodox Church, 615 Mercer St., Cherry Hill, NJ 08002. A second viewing will be held on Tuesday, November 26th, at 10:30 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 11:30 a.m. Interment will take place at Locustwood Memorial Park, Cherry Hill, at 1:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family will establish a memorial fund to support the churches and charities that Harry valued. Details of the memorial fund will be announced shortly.
