Moonachie, NJ – His Eminence, Metropolitan Evangelos of New Jersey was awarded the Alexander the Great Achievement Award, this past Sunday evening. The Hellenic Federation of New Jersey hosted it’s fourth annual banquet and celebrated Metropolitan Evangelos’ tenth anniversary of enthronement as Metropolitan of New Jersey. The Metropolis is comprised of fifty-five parishes in New Jersey, the greater Philadelphia area, Delaware, Maryland and Virginia.
The Greek and American national anthems were sung by Aphrodite Daniel and were followed by a series of speeches from key members of the community.
Greek-Americans from across the country were present to honor Metropolitan Evangelos. Dignitaries, public officials and family members looked on and spoke about his dedication to Hellenism and his many achievements these past 10 years .
Members of The Federation of Hellenic American Societies of Philadelphia and the Greater Delaware Valley were also in attendance. President Efstathios Karadonis, Vice-President George G. Horiatis, along with past presidents , Demetrios Rozanitis and Sotirios Maniatis all spoke about his Eminence’s role and leadership in the community.
The event was highlighted by his Eminence being presented a bust of Alexander the Great by Savas Tsivicos, President of the Federation. Metropolitan Evangelos spoke about Hellenic values and how anyone who embraced them was a Hellene.
