Wilmington, DE – On Tuesday evening the Federation of Hellenic American Societies of Philadelphia and Greater Delaware Valley hosted a meeting at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church.
President Georgia Halakos welcomed and thanked the members for attending. Current affairs, new projects and the Federation annual parade where all part of the agenda.
One of the projects this year will be to introduce the Eleftheria Literary contest that recognizes jr. and sr. contestants from the Sights and Sounds Annual event hosted every year by the metropolis.
Contestants will submit a poem or essay. The winners will receive cash prizes and sashes that they will whereas they march down the Benjamin Franklin Parkway during this year’s Greek Independence Day parade.
This year’s parade theme will commemorate the 100 anniversary of the Pontian genocide. Preparations for the parade are currently underway.
The Federation annual Christmas party will be hosted on December 11th, 2018 at the Pontian Leski in Upper Darby. Dinner will be served and the fee is $25. The Greek American community is encouraged to attend and celebrate the year with the Federation members.
