Wilmington, DE – You want souvlakia? They got ‘um. You want spanakopita or pastitsio? They got ‘um. You say you want great music every day of the week, plenty of outdoor dancing and shopping? They got it all and then some. Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox church on Broom street does it big and does it all, and this year they did it again. Forty years later the landmark festival on the grounds of the church celebrated Hellenism, Orthodoxy and the history of the Greek community in Wilmington Delaware.
The 5-day affair hosted famed Greek band Atlantis of Philadelphia every evening and a food court with all the homemade goodies a food fan could ask for. The parish member kids dance three times a night, while the parishioners serve the food. The end result is rows of smiling faces. Father Christos of Holy Trinity describes the event as “The Festival”, not a Greek Festival. “It is a landmark event for the Wilmington area” he added. The relationship with the community is key at Holy Trinity. Their services cater to the greater community at large and even features roadside service along with an online app. for the trendy orders.
“It’s something we’ve been wanting to add for a few years now. At first, we were hesitant, but it’s working and people love it”, says church President George Rassias.
