From July 9th to July 13th, take a new kind of holiday in the heart of the summer and join Magnum Photographers Jérôme Sessini, Gueorgui Pinkhassov and Eli Reed for an adventurous 5-day experience that will take your photography to a truly innovative and boundary-breaking level. Magnum Photos is delighted to announce a very special workshop in Antiparos, a small Greek island particularly appreciated for its stunning Cycladic beauty, its white buildings and remote sandy beaches.
One of the central ideas behind The Antiparos Photo Festival (4-13 July 2014) was to reinforce this unique island’s cultural identity. Following the success of last year’s event, the second edition of the festival will feature remarkably talented photographers from Greece and abroad. However, the three Magnum photographers, from three different continents, will use this unusual experience to confront their backgrounds and transcend cultural divisions.
Famous for immersing himself in some of the most violent contemporary conflicts, Jérôme Sessini provides a vivid insight into modern wars that is as intimate as it is disturbing. His recent assignment in Ukraine (2014) was particularly appalling and perilous. Jerome will provide support and key insights for photographers in search of a unique artistic signature or striving to express something personal in the timeless context of a Greek summer.
Gueorgui Pinkhassov has been into photography since he was 10 years old. His workshops are a great opportunity for aspiring photographers to learn how to capture the sensations and textures of Antiparos – an island of great archaeological significance. This promises to be an exotic voyage of discovery that will surround participants with warmth, taking them beyond their imaginations.
Eli Reed has always been focused on socially engaged photography and will bring an interesting contrast to an island that was discovered by the artistic community in the 1960s and now attracts its fair share of international celebrities. He will lead his students with novelty and sagacity.
These workshops are made for serious photographers and lovers of photography who are willing to think unconventionally and approach concepts that encompass many disciplines.
With three Magnum Photographers as your honorary photographic tour guides, you can be assured that this will be both challenging and exciting. Join us for five days with a small group of like-minded travellers and photograph your voyage of discovery in an unprecedented way.
As part of a special partnership with the British Journal of Photography, the participants will work with each Magnum tutor to identify a deserving workshop participant, who will enjoy a special online feature of their work accompanied by an interview.
