Petros “Pete” Arsenlis peacefully passed away on Saturday, December 14th, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Stavrodromi, Greece, in 1943, Pete courageously immigrated alone to the United States in 1969, driven by a dream to create a brighter future for himself and his loved ones. His adventurous spirit and unwavering dedication not only brought him personal success but also inspired his family and the broader Greek-American community.

In 1973, Pete married his beloved wife, Elpida, and together, they built a life filled with love, hard work, and generosity. Pete’s resilience and commitment extended beyond his immediate family. He helped his two brothers and a cousin relocate to the United States, enabling them to start their own families and contribute to the thriving community we cherish today. His legacy of support and kindness continues to grow through the lives he touched.

Pete began his professional journey as a tailor, where his exceptional work ethic quickly led him into entrepreneurship. He opened his first restaurant in Philadelphia, followed by another in Lansdowne. For 28 years, Pete and Elpida owned and operated the Lansdowne Diner, becoming cherished community members. Their diner was more than just a place to eat; it was a hub where friendships were formed, and countless memories were made. Pete was known for his unwavering dedication to his employees and regular customers, always going the extra mile to ensure everyone felt valued and cared for. During the holidays, he exemplified his generous spirit by packing and delivering meals to those who couldn’t leave their homes, embodying the true meaning of community.

Above all, Pete treasured his family. He was a steadfast supporter of his children’s education, encouraging them to pursue advanced degrees and successful careers—achievements that filled him with immense pride. Pete loved taking his family on spontaneous road trips along the East Coast, creating lasting memories and strengthening their bonds. Renowned as the family handyman, he was always eager to tackle repair projects, showcasing his practical skills and resourcefulness. In his retirement, Pete found joy in spending time with his grandchildren, who affectionately called him “Papou,” cherishing every moment together.

Pete is survived by his beloved wife Elpida, affectionately known as “Nitsa,” and his loving children Athanasios “Tom” (Alexandra), Sophia Arsenlis (David Lynch), and Maria Arsenlis (David Ory). He was also a devoted grandfather to Zoie, Peter, Hope, Julia, Eliana, and Apollo and is survived by his siblings Dimitrios, Ekaterina, Anastasios, and Paschalis.

Friends and family are invited to honor Pete’s memory at his viewing from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Thursday, December 19, 2024, at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 229 Powell Ln., Upper Darby, PA 19082. The funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. in the church, with interment at SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes memorial contributions to the church, continuing Pete’s legacy of community support and generosity.

Petros “Pete” Arsenlis will be remembered not only for his entrepreneurial spirit and dedication to his family but also for his kind heart and the positive impact on everyone around him. His legacy lives on through the lives he touched and the family he so lovingly supported. We extend our heartfelt condolences to Elpida, their children, grandchildren, and all who had the privilege of knowing Pete. May he rest in peace, surrounded by the love and memories he so richly deserves.
