The area’s premier Greek basketball league launches on October 13th, 2016. Can you believe the PGBL is turning ten years old? Who would have thought back in 2007 that a new start-up league would turn into what it is today?

Well, it has and this upcoming season promises to be the best yet. As is every offseason, so many players moving to new teams and a couple of new team names as well. The Sixers tied with the Revolution for longest running PGBL team are sitting this season out! No more Spartans either! New to the PGBL this year, are the Lakers and another new team yet to reveal their name! Rumor has it that PGBL Hall of Famers Jim Armenakis is running with Danny’s Boys, Chris Vasiliou to the Revolution, Big George Pagiotas to the Kings and many more moves you will have to wait to see on opening day.

Commissioners Bill Zonios and John Vasiliou are working with Cosmos Philly on a much anticipated PGBL documentary to be revealed during the end of the season “PGBL Hall of Fame Banquet” in March 2017. That will definitely be something interesting to see.

Finally, we have some of the biggest news ever in PGBL history. This 10th anniversary season will be the final season for Bill Zonios and John Vasiliou as Commissioners of the league! These original founders of the PGBL have worked tirelessly over the past ten years to create what we all know, and love is the PGBL today. They will be stepping aside as they have appointed Louie Karapanagiotides, Yiotis Kasapis and a 3rd Commissioner to be named during this upcoming season.

Both Bill and John will remain close to the PGBL on the advisory board, however, starting next season all of the duties will be handled by the three new Commissioners. We are very excited to see them take the PGBL to an even higher level over the next few years.
