Have you ever wondered about what life was like for your ancestors? Why did they leave Greece to forge a new path in the United States? These are questions that can be answered with a little determination and some practical guidance.
On Saturday, October 13, 2018, the Hellenic Genealogy Conference will be held at St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Philadelphia. This conference is to teach people how to research their heritage in the United States, as well as in Greece.
Finding your roots is no easy task. Knowing how to start, where to search, and what procedures to follow is crucial to success. This conference is focused on teaching the basic knowledge and tools necessary to successfully research your roots, and no genealogical experience is needed!
Speakers Carol Kostakis Petranik, Georgia Stryker Keilman, and Nicole Zizos Gulledge are very well versed in every aspect of Greek genealogy and will guide us through the process.
The agenda includes how to use U.S. records, what is available and where to find them, locating and using immigration and naturalization records, Ancestry DNA, research in Greece and planning a research trip.
