Upper Darby, PA – The arts played center stage this past weekend for Greek-American youth. Forty-five different categories of the arts were featured and performed at St Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, who played host to this year’s Sights and Sounds.

The annual event sponsored by the Delaware Valley Youth Commission brings together GOYA members, via their churches for this two day-long series of performances and contests. More than 300 young men and women participated and showed off their stuff to judges, family, and a full church hall. Categories ranged from folk dancing, sculpture, painting, instrumentals, theater, and vocal.

The event was run by co-commissioners, Eleni Agatsiotis and Athena Putros of St. Demetrios. Former participants and now advisors, they oversaw the facilities of the St. Demetrios with walkie-talkies and kept the day long events running smoothly. “We just love our GOYA kids and hosting an event like this. It brings together Greeks from all over”, said Athena Putros. “The event has grown in recent years with more group events,” added Putros. This year, three more parishes were invited to participate from outside the area, bringing the total to 16. Sights & Sounds continues to play a vital role uniting the region’s youth.
