Upper Darby, PA – St. Thomas and St. Demetrios split victories in GOYA basketball action on Sunday afternoon.

Kathryn Pappas and Katherine Pratsinakis of St. Thomas Greek Orthodox church each scored six points and led all scores in their decisive victory over St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox. The St. Thomas girls’ tough defense held St. Demetrios to one bucket in the first half and just two more in the second.

Girls final score: St. Thomas 20, St. Demetrios 6.

The St. Demetrios boys basketball team jumped out to an eight-point lead in the first quarter and dominated the 1st half by working their big men inside the paint.

At halftime, they led 23 to 16 and seemed to be on their way to a victory. However, St. Thomas climbed back into the game at the start of the third period and got within four points. Several converted fast breaks caught the St. Demetrios boys flat during the start. But St. Demetrios regrouped midway through during a timeout and cruised the rest of the way, thanks to veteran player Luke Loucas who led all scores with 16 points and was 2 of 2 from the foul line.

Boys final score: St. Demetrios 44, St. Thomas 29.
