A 40 year dream has come to fruition for the parishioners of St. Sophia, Greek Orthodox Church in Norristown Pennsylvania. Some 350 people attended the event that began in a plastic tent in the church parking lot. Metropolitan Evangelos conducted and led his flock from the tent to a ceremonial blessing in front of the church doors around 10:00 am.
The first Liturgy service followed the ribbon cutting ceremony that held back the excited crowed that gathered outside its doors. Some came holding candles, while others carried icons and smiles as they entered. Some two hours later, the parishioners retired to the one time hall for lunch that was used for liturgies these past years. Now, it would be used specifically for social affairs by its parishioners.
