The Greek-American community of Wilmington, Delaware, mourns the loss of Voula G. Manis, who passed away on August 2, 2024, at the age of 98, in Fayetteville, NC.

Born in Bluefield, WV, in 1925, Voula returned to her family’s ancestral home in Nafpaktos, Greece, in 1932. She returned to the United States after World War II, marrying George C. Manis in Wilmington, DE, on November 14, 1948.

The couple moved to Wilmington, DE, in 1956 to raise their children near the Greek Orthodox Church. In March 1973, Voula and George opened the Towne Wharf Restaurant.

Voula was a devoted member of Holy Trinity Greek Church in Wilmington. She was known for her dedication to family and church, her love of plants, and her enjoyment of soap operas.

Voula was preceded in death by her husband, George C. Manis; son, John G. Manis; parents, John C. and Helen Kapordelis; brothers, Harry J. and Charles J. Kapordelis; and sisters, Theone Pantazis and Stella Yankoglu.

She is survived by her son Charles G. Manis and wife Donna Kiki (Parrous) Manis of Fayetteville, NC; daughter Katherine (Manis) Rose and husband Michael G. Rose of Ewing Township, NJ; nine grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at 10:30 AM, followed by the funeral service at 11:30 AM on August 17, 2024, at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 808 N Broom Street, Wilmington, DE, 19806. Interment will follow at Silverbrook Cemetery, Wilmington, DE.
