Drexel Hill, PA – The last Sunday in the year brought the Ahepa chapter members #445 (Thermopylae) together again one last time. The occasion was the annual recognition of the Scholarship recipients at a luncheon. In addition, past presidents and members who had passed, along with members that were sick were remembered and mentioned.

George Maalouf (Pharm D), Ahepa member and master of ceremonies reminded us of our Greek Christian roots, which was followed by a prayer and a moment of silence by fellow member John Onasis. John Zisis, former president also spoke about former President of the chapter, John H. Kambouroglou who was mentioned with thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery by his brothers and colleagues (via Cosmos Philly).

Maalouf then proceeded to hand out awards to student scholars. The local chapter of the Daughters of Penelope #332 and Sons of Pericles also participated in the scholarship awards. Each student then had a moment to share information about their own history and background. In all, more than 9000.00 dollars in scholarships was given away to Greek American students.

Ahepa chapter #445 continues it’s philanthropic efforts and is seeking out donors to help continue giving scholarships to worthy Greek American students, said Dimitri Constandinidis of the AHEPA.

Following the student scholarships, members and presidents were recognized. A group photo was followed by several special recognitions. John Onasis,Chapter 445 member, received a 50 year pin and Nickolas Karabetsos was honored for his 63 years as a Ahepa member.

AHEPA hosts it’s annual AHEPA TRACK MEET (Americas oldest and first) every year in Upper Darby. They invite all of the Greek-American community to come out and see this event and participate. The event is scheduled for Saturday, May 11th, 2012 (noon start).
