Upper Darby, PA – The Akritai of Upper Darby hosted their second annual Apokries Dance at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox church. Snowy and icy conditions had forced the event to rescheduled from Saturday to Sunday evening.

Two of Greece’s finest Pontian singers were brought in from Greece, to sing. Cousins, Giorgos Sofianidis and Alexis Parharidis, joined together on stage with local lyra player Christos Tiktakpanidis.

The evening was highlighted by the theatrical dance performance known as the Momogeri. It was performed by the Akritai Dance troupe. The dances are all members of the Pontian Akritai club house in Upper Darby. Just down the street from St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox church, it is America’s oldest Black Sea organization in North America.

The evening ending with a duet performance on the dance floor which included a daouli and the vocals of Giorgos Sofianidis.
