Upper Darby, PA – Since 2012, the Greek-American community of Philadelphia has been commemorating the Pontian Genocide Remembrance Day at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church. This year, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this event, like others in the community, has been suspended.

The images of this video capture the spirit of the ceremony over the past eight years outside the church, where the Pontian monument rests as a reminder to all those that perished and to their lost homeland.

May 19th commemorates the Pontian Greek Genocide (1913-1922) and is sponsored by the Pontian Akritai of Philadelphia, whose clubhouse is just a few blocks away.
