Philadelphia, PA – The Sheraton Hotel on the campus of University of Pennsylvania played host to the AHEPA regional conventions of both Districts 4 and 5 this past weekend. Comprising of Pennsylvania (District 4) and New Jersey/Delaware (District 5), some 250 members attended meetings, elected officials and got to experience Philadelphia for this historic event.

Traditionally, District conventions are held each year alone inside the district. But this year, for the first time in many, District 5 crossed the Delaware river on one side, while it’s counterparts in Delaware, traveled up I-95 in to the University city area of Philadelphia. Together, 4 organizations of AHEPANS AND DAUGHTERS OF PENELOPE from both districts 4 and 5, celebrated in the city of brotherly love.

A golf outing and welcome reception at the Sugarhouse Casino were part of the weekend events that kicked off on Friday morning. Members from around the country also attended. Governors of each district as well as respected officers were elected on Saturday afternoon and a visit by Batman highlighted the Scholarship awards ceremony at lunch. His message, philanthropy, a common thread for the AHEPA was amplified with his presence.

The gala dinner, featured Basile the comedian and Atlantis of Philadelphia. Through out the evening members of both organizations spoke on behalf of AHEPA’s efforts and their love of the organization.

Everywhere you looked, hugs, hand shakes and smiles were exchanged by the district members that typically come together at the National Convention, which made this occasion special and recognized the fact, that Philadelphia is at the center of these two districts.

The AHEPA Supreme National Convention 2014 this year will be hosted in New Orleans, LA. The annual event is in its 92nd year.
