Deptford, NJ – The Cyprus Society of Greater Philadelphia hosted an evening with Michalis Violaris and Andrianna Kollia. The musical group Antama accompanied the singers and added to the flavor of the night. Violaris melodies from the 60’s and 70’s took guests on a nostalgic journey about the music scene which his stamp is on as a representative of the homeland, Cyprus. He is a pioneer responsible for popularising in Greece Cypriot songs sung in the Cypriot dialect. His song “Ta Ryalia” sung in Cypriot Greek became a hit in the top-10 of Greece in 1973.

Folk dancing was also featured by the youth of the Cyprus Society, that was hailed by guests as they looked on. “Our organization continues to promote and preserve the traditions and culture of Cyprus. This is our main focus”, said Stelios Tsinontides, the current president of the Cyprus Society of Greater Philadelphia.
