On Holy Saturday evening, the community gathered at Evangelismos of Theotokos Greek Orthodox Church in Philadelphia for one of the most cherished services of the Orthodox calendar — the celebration of the Resurrection. Beginning at 11:00 PM, the service was also streamed live, allowing many to participate from home and feel connected to the sacred experience.

As midnight approached, the church filled with a quiet sense of anticipation. Then, as the flame was passed from the altar and the chant of “Χριστός Ανέστη” (“Christ is Risen”) resounded, the moment of the Resurrection was proclaimed with light and song. Candles lit up the night, and the joyful hymn echoed through the church and beyond, reaching households across the city and beyond through the live stream.

The broadcast captured the reverence and beauty of the night, allowing families, friends, and those unable to attend in person to witness the service as it unfolded in real time. For many, watching from home became a meaningful part of their Paschal celebration.

Following the liturgical service, the celebration extended outdoors. A colorful fireworks display lit up the Philadelphia sky above the church grounds — a visual expression of the joy and hope brought by the Resurrection. It was a moment of wonder and festivity, especially for the many children who stood in awe beneath the bursts of light.

Whether in person at Evangelismos of Theotokos or watching from afar, this year’s Resurrection service was a reminder of the strength of community and the enduring power of faith. It was more than a tradition — it was a shared moment of light, joy, and renewed hope.
