Elkins Park, PA – Memorial Day weekend kicked off with the sounds of Greece and the scents of Greek food at the Annunciation Greek Festival on Old York road. Under the big tent parishioners lined up arm in arm loading up platefuls of homemade Greek food a la carte for guests.

A line stretched around the church with hungry patrons, like kids waiting for tickets at a rock concert. Colorful folk outfits from scrolled into the center with matching smiles from the youth dance group. Whirling and jumping the young performers brought on cheers as the parking lot of Annunciation Greek Orthodox church became a Greek village festival.

Throughout the evening Greek wine and Tsipouro was shared at tables. While live Greek music added to the affair atmosphere making this a wonderful night in Elkins Park. The annual event signals the beginning of Summer is just around the corner and for the parishioners of Annunciation they’ve shown off their Greek with pride.
