A charming and heartfelt celebration of Greek culture unfolded last week on the grounds of Evangelismos Greek Orthodox Church on Bustleton Avenue in Northeast Philadelphia. The parish hosted its annual Greek Festival, drawing crowds with the promise of traditional homemade cuisine and the warmth of community.
Everything on the menu—from savory dishes to sweet pastries—was prepared from scratch by parishioners, preserving the flavors and techniques passed down through generations. Visitors lined up for plates of moussaka, souvlaki, spanakopita, and freshly made loukoumades, enjoying each bite under the summer sun.
Adding to the festive spirit, the church’s Greek school dance groups performed throughout the day. Dressed in traditional attire, students danced to regional folk music, sharing pieces of Greece’s rich cultural heritage with the crowd.
