Upper Darby, PA – The initial schedule for Greek Independence Day 2019 was announced yesterday. This special occasion will also coincide with the 100th anniversary of the Pontian Genocide. Board members of the Federation of Hellenic American Societies of Philadelphia and Greater Delaware Valley sat down last night at the Pontian Leschi to hash out the details of this unique week as it approaches.

Plans to unite the two affairs commemorating Greek history will feature a week-long series of events. They will begin at the end of March and continue through the first week of April. From around the nation, Philadelphia’s Greek community will be center stage, as it celebrates and remembers these two historical moments. Lectures, films, and ceremonies will mark the occasions.

A final decision on the parade and its activities will be announced next week. Below is a list of events that have been scheduled.

For more information, please contact the Federation’s president, Georgia Halakos at 302-379-4335, or its vice president, Georgia Chletcos at 610-547-0072.
