Pennsauken, NJ – The annual Vasilopita Cutting, sponsored by the Federation of Hellenic American Societies of Philadelphia and the Greater Delaware Valley was hosted at the Ikarian House yesterday evening. Some 35 representatives from the areas churches and societies attended. The evening was highlighted with a plaque being awarded from the Ikarian Society to George Burlotos of “The Greek Spirit” TV program. He was recognized for his years of service to the community.
The Vasilopita ceremony was conducted by area church priests, Father Alexandros Kantarakias, Father Christos Christofis and Father Christoforos. Everyone in the house came forward and was blessed and then received a slice of the sweet bread. The meeting focused on a review of the upcoming Independence Day parade details and review of last years events in the Greek-American community.
