Nicolaos “Nicholas” Argyropoulos, a longtime cobbler remembered for his warmth, work ethic, and devotion to his family, passed peacefully on July 4, 2026. He was 95.

Born in Thessaloniki, Greece, Nicholas came to the United States and built a new life for his family. He carried with him a steady work ethic, pride in his craft, and an easy way with people. He spent his life repairing shoes, working as a cobbler until the age of 89.

Nicholas was known for his ability to talk to anyone. He had a warm, open personality and never treated people like strangers for long. Through his work and in daily life, he met others with kindness, conversation, and a presence that stayed with those who knew him.

His family was at the center of his life. His children remember the trips he took with them down the shore, memories that became part of the family’s story. To those closest to him, Nicholas was an example of dedication, kindness, and the value of hard work.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Maria; his children, Theodore, Vicky and her husband, Frank, and Sam; his grandchildren, Frank, Niko, and Alexis; and his sisters, Eliptha Ioannou and Maria Argyropoulos.

A short film about his life, “The Whole United States Is Mine”, is available on Cosmos Philly.

Family and friends are invited to a viewing on Thursday, July 9, from 10 to 11 a.m. at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 229 Powell Lane, Upper Darby, PA 19082. The funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. at the church. Interment will take place afterward at Fernwood Cemetery, 6501 Baltimore Ave., Lansdowne, PA 19050.
