A portrait  of Macedonian war hero Pavlos Melas stairs back as a tour guide  tells of the story of his heroics.  Pavlos Melas  was an officer of the Hellenic Army, who was among the first who organized and participated in the Greek Struggle for Macedonia. On October 13, 1904 he was killed after being surrounded by Ottoman forces in the village of Siatista. The village  has been renamed Melas in his honour, after joining Greece.
