Upper Darby, PA – February 15, 2014. It came a little earlier than last year, but the 8th annual Tsipourovrathia was a well needed party for those with cabin fever. Hosted again this past weekend at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox church the occasion was extra special. The Epirotes Society chapter, “Omonia”, celebrated 75 years as a member of the Philadelphia Greek community.

More than 300 people came out to celebrate the evening that featured “The Lazaros Paraskeva Band”. The crowd danced the night away to the traditional sounds of Epirus, Greece, where most of the attendees hail from. A traditional late night soup called Patsa was also on the menu again. It followed a lot of Tsipouro being served throughout the evening and is what the event is recognized for.

Kostas Kravaris, President of The Epirotes Society of Philadelphia, “Omonia”, spoke on behalf of the organization again, before a cake was cut by all the prior presidents of the local chapter. Kravaris spoke about the history of the organization and it’s philanthropic endeavors. He expressed his love of the community and thanked all that attended.
