Philadelphia, PΑ – On Sunday afternoon, following church services at St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Philadelphia, the Epirotes Society of Philadelphia “Omonia” got together, to bring in the new year at their first meeting of 2016. The Epirotes reviewed the year’s annual philanthropic projects, budget and upcoming event, “Tsipourovradia”, scheduled for this March 5, 2016.

Midway through the afternoon meeting a Vasilopita bread cutting ceremony took place, a tradition that happens throughout the month of January in Greek homes, businesses and churches.

Before the meeting concluded, another tradition took place – the annual drawing of a gold Lira. The winner of this $350 valued coin was an old and distinguished member, Chris Pappas.
