Broomall, PA – September saw the start of new year for many organizations. AHEPA Chapter 445 Thermopylae, held it’s first meeting of the year at St. Luke Greek Orthodox church. Newly elected president Greg Vlassopoulos spoke about the new direction and it’s past years projects. From the Clergy Laity, to annual scholarships, to community grants, AHEPA had completed another full year of philanthropic services devoted the community.

During the evening 4 new members were inducted into the organization. They will attend a formal swearing in ceremony in October at the AHEPA room at St. Thomas Greek Orthodox church. Districts 4 and 5 will join together and host a multi induction evening. Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware will participate.

Also on the agenda and a cornerstone of the organization, was the annual James D. Tanos Track Meet. Known as the oldest Greek American track meet in North America, it has been in decline the last few years, and is one of the challenges facing newly elected president Greg Vlassopoulos. Vlassopoulos and his staff outlined plans for a multi platform effort to reinvigorate the Track meet. Cosmos Philly will feature the concept in a future interview with Vlassopoulos. The event is scheduled to take place on May 30th 2015 at Upper Darby, H.S.
